If you know me personally, then you know that I spend my day wearing flip flops. It is one of those advantages of living in Florida and running my dream business. Now, you may be asking, "What is a siped outsole anyway?"
Siping is a process of cutting thin slits across a rubber surface to improve traction in wet or icy conditions. Siping was invented and patented in 1923 by, you've got it, a man named John F. Sipe.
There are two tales about how siping originated. One is that John Sipe was a deckhand on a boat who cut slits in the outer soles of his shoes to avoid slipping on the wet deck. The other is that Sipe worked in a slaughterhouse and wanted to stop slipping on wet floors. In either event, the process worked, and today most non-slip automobile tires are siped.

They may cost a few bucks more than those Wal-Mart specials, but they are well worth the price. Ebb Tides are very comfortable, look good, and last. Go ahead and check your tires.
